Mobil listrik merupakan salah satu kendaraan yang ramah lingkungan karena tidak menimbulkan polusi udara dan menggunakan listrik sebagai tenaga utamanya. Energi listrik tersebut disimpan pada baterai khusus yang digunakan untuk kendaraan listrik.
Berbeda dengan mobil konvensional yang mengisi bahan bakarnya ke SPBU, mobil listrik mengisi bahan bakarnya dengan melakukan pengisian ulang daya pada listriknya atau melakukan pengecasan hingga persentase baterai menjadi 100%. Pengisian daya mobil listrik dilakukan pada stasiun pengisian khusus kendaraan listrik, kemudian memilih model colokan mobil listrik sesuai dengan mobil yang akan di cas.
Sesuai dengan Peraturan Menteri Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) RI Nomor 13 Tahun 2020 terdapat 3 jenis model colokan kendaraan listrik yang dapat digunakan pada Stasiun Pengisian Kendaraan Listrik Umum (SPKLU). 1. TYPE 2 AC CHARGING
Model colokan mobil listrik type 2 AC Charging merupakan colokan mobil listrik yang saat ini paling banyak digunakan di dunia. Colokan mobil listrik dengan tipe pengisian ulang arus bolak-balik (Alternating Current Charging System) dengan tujuh pin koneksi pada kedua ujungnya yang dapat memudahkan menyambungkan pada stop kontak dinding rumah maupun stasiun pengisian umum.
Karena model colokan mobil listrik ini menggunakan arus bolak balik (AC), memungkinkan pengisian daya menjadi lebih lambat (hingga 43 kW) dibandingkan pengisian cepat DC, yang memerlukan koneksi CCS. Meski memungkinkan pengisian daya lebih lambat, pengguna colokan mobil listrik Type 2 AC Charging ini dapat melakukan aktivitas lain selagi menunggu proses pengisian daya, seperti berbelanja maupun berolahraga di gym.
2. DC CHARGING CHAdeMO
Model colokan mobil listrik CHAdeMo atau CHarge de Mode merupakan model colokan mobil listrik dengan tipe pengisian ulang arus searah (Direct Current Charging System) atau DC yang menggunakan konektor tipe konfigurasi AA series. Colokan mobil listrik CHAdeMO memiliki bentuk colokan bulat dengan empat lubang, dua merupakan elemen konektor DC positif dan negatif.
Karena model colokan mobil listrik ini merupakan tipe pengisian ulang satu arah, maka arus listriknya langsung ke baterai dan memungkinkan pengisian daya dalam waktu yang cepat. DC Charging CHAdeMO dikembangkan oleh Jepang, sehingga model colokan mobil listrik ini biasa digunakan oleh mobil listrik buatan Jepang. Selain itu, DC Charging CHAdeMO juga dapat ditemui pada mobil Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, dan Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid.

3. DC CHARGING COMBO TYPE CCS2
Model colokan mobil listrik DC Charging Combo Type CCS2 merupakan tipe colokan mobil listrik tipe pengisian ulang kombinasi arus bolak-balik dan searah (Combined Charging System) dengan konektor tipe konfigurasi FF. Pengisian daya colokan mobil listrik DC Charging Combo Type CCS2 merupakan fast charging dan banyak digunakan pada mobil-mobil listrik keluaran Eropa.
DC Charging Combo Type CCS2 memiliki bentuk yang hampir serupa dengan colokan mobil listrik type 2 AC Charging. Yang membedakannya adalah pada DC Charging Combo Type CCS2, terdapat tambahan konektor 2 lubang di bawahnya.
