Meningkatkan kapasitas penyimpanan air sangat penting untuk beradaptasi dengan dunia yang lebih hangat dan memenuhi permintaan air yang terus meningkat.

Dibandingkan dengan pembangkit listrik tenaga batu bara konvensional, tenaga air mencegah emisi sekitar 3 GT CO2 per tahun, yang mewakili sekitar 9% dari emisi CO2 tahunan global.
