Meningkatkan kapasitas penyimpanan air sangat penting untuk beradaptasi dengan dunia yang lebih hangat dan memenuhi permintaan air yang terus meningkat.

Pembangkit listrik tenaga air memberikan kontribusi signifikan terhadap pengurangan emisi GRK dan keamanan pasokan energi. Dibandingkan dengan pembangkit listrik tenaga batu bara konvensional, tenaga air mencegah emisi sekitar 3 GT CO2 per tahun, yang mewakili sekitar 9% dari emisi CO2 tahunan global.
