Micro-hydro Power Plant in Talunombo Village Utilizes Irrigation flow as a Source Energy
  • A micro hydro power plant is a technology that utilizes hydropower to be converted into electrical energy.
  • According to the Talunombo village government, the construction of this micro-hydro power plant is a commitment from the village government to implement policies related to community needs.
  • Reporting from Wonosobozone, according to the village head of Talunombo, this micro-hydro will later be used to illuminate the village road.

Hydropower can be a renewable energy source to generate electricity. Water sources can be obtained from rivers, irrigation, dams, or reservoirs.

Hydropower is used to run hydroelectric power plants. On a small scale, micro-hydro power plants are usually built that use hydropower from irrigation canals, rivers, and waterfalls as an energy source.

A micro-hydro power plant is a technology that utilizes hydropower to be converted into electrical energy. The way this micro-hydro power plant works is by utilizing hydropower to drive a turbine that will produce mechanical energy. Furthermore, this mechanical energy drives a generator and generates electricity.

The process of installing a micro hydro generator is not too difficult. The only requirements needed are the location and the amount of water discharged. Micro hydro power plants must be built in areas that have a constant availability of water flow within a certain discharge size. The size of the water discharge will determine the amount of energy that can be generated.

Then, the micro-hydro generator circuit requires a turbine to rotate the electric dynamo coil. The dynamo is used to convert the energy produced by the turbine rotation into electricity. And the electricity network is distributed from the micro-hydro power plant to the users.

Micro hydro power plants do not use fuel oil at all. So that there is no exhaust gas resulting from the use of this technology.

Therefore, the use of micro-hydro power plants is one effort to support the clean energy mix. In addition, another advantage of this micro hydro power plant is that it can be used continuously for 24 hours without stopping.

One of the areas in Indonesia that uses micro-hydro power plants is the community of Talunombo Village, Sapuran District, Wonosobo Regency. This micro-hydro power plant was built by the community and the Talunombo government. The construction of the Talunombo micro hydro power plant was carried out to support the renewable energy security program.

According to the Talunombo village government, the construction of this micro-hydro power plant is a commitment from the village government to implement policies related to community needs. In this case, infrastructure is the main thing to meet electricity needs.

Reporting from Wonosobozone, according to the village head of Talunombo, this micro-hydro will later be used to illuminate the village road. In addition, it will also be supplied to people who carry out MSME activities. This can ease the burden of the PLN electricity bill.

In the early stages, the government and the people of Talunombo succeeded in building one windmill with a capacity of 600 volts. And later, the capacity generated from the micro-hydro power plant will continue to be increased.

The construction of a micro-hydro power plant is carried out using non-governmental funds and is supported by the Talunombo government. This micro-hydro power plant will be targeted to be remembered, so that it reaches the stage of an energy independent village.

The government and the people of Talunombo village are also developing technology to generate electricity from wind energy sources.

In addition to the Talunombo micro-hydro power plant, other areas are also implementing micro-hydro power plants. The area is Pelakat village, Muara Enim, South Sumatra. Then, in 2013, Al Azhar Peduli Ummat built a micro-hydro power plant in collaboration with PT Bukit Asam. The irrigation flow is used to drive the turbine. The micro-hydro power plant produces 32 KW for 124 families in the village.

Micro-hydro power plants are a long-term investment for society and the environment. The installation of a micro hydro power plant is relatively inexpensive, although it takes a lot of money to build the installation.

However, by working together, the community can build this installation at an affordable cost. Economically, micro-hydro power plants are also more efficient and easy to maintain when compared to other energy sources.

For the environment, the use of electricity from micro-hydro plants can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are wasted into the atmosphere, which cause global warming. So, in other words, the use of MHP is one way to overcome global warming.
