Hasil pengeboran tersebut menghasilkan listrik yang dapat menyuplai kebutuhan ribuan rumah tangga. Geo Dipa Energi merencanakan pembangunan Unit 2 dan Unit 3 PLTP Patuha dengan masing-masing berkapasitas 55 MW sebagai pengembangan Proyek Patuha Unit 1.
Sistem kerja PLTP Patuha pada dasarnya sama dengan PLTP umumnya, yakni memanfaatkan panas bumi untuk memutar turbin dan menghasilkan listrik. Pemanasan air ini dilakukan dengan injeksi air dari permukaan ke dalam bumi. Uap air yang keluar akan mengalir ke permukaan melalui sumur produksi, lalu dialirkan ke turbin untuk memutar generator listrik. Setelah menggerakkan turbin, uap air akan dikondensasikan kembali menjadi air dan dialirkan kembali ke dalam bumi melalui sumur injeksi.
Pengembangan PLTP Patuha dapat meningkatkan ketersediaan listrik di daerah tersebut dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya energi panas bumi yang tersedia di kawasan Patuha. Produksi listrik dari PLTP Patuha dapat memenuhi kebutuhan listrik di daerah tersebut dan sekitarnya. Selain itu, pengembangan PLTP Patuha juga dapat mengurangi ketergantungan pada bahan bakar fosil dan menghasilkan listrik yang bersih dan ramah lingkungan.
