Perayaan Hari Lingkungan Hidup Sedunia pada tanggal 5 Juni 2023 lalu, Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan RI memberikan penghargaan yang penuh makna bagi salah satu pahlawan lingkungan dari Jawa Barat, Asep H. Mustopa. Ia berdedikasi untuk melestarikan lingkungan hidup hingga menerima penghargaan Kalpataru dari Pemerintah Pusat. Asep diakui atas kontribusinya yang luar biasa dalam menjaga keberlanjutan lingkungan, terutama melalui usahanya dalam melestarikan tanaman henjeli atau coix lasyma-joby di daerah Sukabumi.

Kalpataru bukanlah hanya sekadar penghargaan biasa karena penghargaan ini merupakan salah satu tanda kehormatan tertinggi yang diberikan Pemerintah Pusat untuk para pejuang lingkungan hidup di Indonesia. Sejak pertama kali digelar pada tahun 1980, penghargaan tersebut sudah menjadi simbol pengakuan terhadap dedikasi serta inovasi dalam menjaga lingkungan maupun alam. Melalui penghargaan Kalpataru, Asep telah menjadi bagian dari pejuang lingkungan hidup yang sudah memberikan kontribusi luar biasa bagi keberlanjutan lingkungan Indonesia dengan hasil kerjanya.

Asep H. Mustopa, yang lebih dikenal sebagai Abah Asep di komunitasnya, menunjukkan ketertarikan yang besar terhadap lingkungan sekitarnya setelah ia kembali dari Arab Saudi pada tahun 2009. Sebagai seorang Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI), beliau bekerja di Maktabah El-Manar Kota Zulfi, sebuah galeri kaligrafi di Arab Saudi selama dua tahun sebelum pulang ke Indonesia. Kesadaran akan kebutuhan sumber daya alam dan pangan di Kabupaten Sukabumi mendorongnya untuk bertindak untuk perubahan. Melihat banyaknya penduduk di kabupaten tersebut, Asep menyadari pentingnya mencari alternatif pangan untuk mengurangi ketergantungan pada beras atau makanan pokok hampir seluruh masyarakat di Indonesia.

Asep menyadari dampak emigrasi terhadap masyarakat lokal, khususnya perempuan. Dengan inisiatifnya, ia mendirikan Kelompok Wanita Tani dan memperkenalkan tanaman Hanjeli atau Jali sebagai solusi alternatif yang bergizi tinggi dalam mengatasi kedua masalah tersebut. Melalui usaha tersebut, ia tidak hanya berusaha untuk mengatasi masalah ketersediaan pangan, tetapi juga menciptakan lapangan kerja lokal serta meningkatkan kualitas gizi masyarakat setempat. Keputusannya untuk mendirikan KWT merupakan langkah awal untuk memberdayakan komunitasnya, menunjukkan komitmen serta kepeduliannya terhadap kesejahteraan sosial. Dengan demikian, pemilik namas asli Asep Hidayat Mustopa ini tidak hanya menjadi pelopor dalam usaha pelestarian lingkungan, tetapi juga menjadi agen perubahan yang berperan dalam pembangunan komunitas di daerahnya.

Asep H. Mustopa berhasil mengajak warga Kampung Waluran 2, Kabupaten Sukabumi, Jawa Barat, untuk membudidayakan hanjeli. Sumber: jadesta.com

Asep telah berhasil menginisiasi pembentukan Desa Wisata Hanjeli di Desa Waluran Mandiri, Kecamatan Waluran, Kabupaten Sukabumi, Jawa Barat yang bertujuan untuk memaksimalkan potensi lokal serta dapat meningkatkan taraf hidup penduduk setempat. Fokusnya terhadap pengembangan tanaman hanjeli sebagai komoditas utama memiliki tujuan untuk menciptakan lapangan kerja lokal dan meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat di sekitar. Melalui langkah-langkah tersebut, Asep berharap mampu menciptakan suatu destinasi wisata yang tidak hanya menarik untuk para pengunjung, tetapi juga memberikan dampak positif secara ekonomi dan sosial untuk komunitasnya.

Selain itu, dalam usaha menunjukkan kepeduliannya terhadap sesama, Asep mendirikan Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) yang merupakan langkah awal dalam memberdayakan masyarakat lokal. Terutama, dalam memberikan dukungan pada para mantan pekerja migran, khususnya perempuan yang kembali ke Waluran, Kabupaten Sukabumi yang mengalami kesulitan mencari pekerjaan layak. Dengan pendirian KWT ini, Asep berfokus untuk memberikan pelatihan, bantuan, serta sumber daya lainnya pada penduduk setempat sehingga mereka menjadi lebih mandiri secara ekonomi serta meningkatkan kualitas hidup dari masing-masing.

Asep H. Mustopa sudah menerima beberapa penghargaan yang begitu berharga antara lain sebagai berikut:

  1. Penerima Penghargaan Kalpataru 2023 dari Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) dalam kategori perintis lingkungan. Penghargaann ini menegaskan pengakuan terhadap peran Asep sebagai pelopor dalam melestarikan lingkungan, khususnya melalui inisiatif seperti Desa Wisata Hanjeli.
  2. Penerima Anugerah Desa Wisata Indonesia (ADWI) tahun 2022 yang menunjukkan apresiasi terhadap peran Asep dalam mengembangkan Desa Wisata Hanjeli di Waluran, Kabupaten Sukabumi. Penghargaan ini diberikan untuk mengakui usahanya untuk membangun destinasi wisata yang berkelanjutan dan memberdayakan komunitas lokal.
  3. Penerima Penghargaan Satu Indonesia Award (SIA) tahun 2021 tingkat provinsi dalam bidang kewirausahaan. Penghargaan tersebut adalah salah satu penghargaan dari Astra Indonesia yang menghargai peran Asep dalam memberdayakan masyarakat Waluran, Kabupaten Sukabumi, melalui usaha kewirausahaan. Penghargaan ini diberikan untuk menegaskan perannya sebagai agen perubahan dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan dan pembangunan komunitas lokal. Selain itu, penghargaan Satu Indonesia Awards (SIA) menyoroti peran Asep dalam menggerakkan pembangunan di berbagai sektor, termasuk pendidikan, kesehatan, lingkungan, teknologi, dan kewirausahaan. Hal tersebut memperkuat statusnya sebagai pemimpin yang berdedikasi dalam memajukan kesejahteraan masyarakat dan keberlanjutan lingkungan, khususnya di daerah asalnya, Waluran, Kabupaten Sukabumi.
