PLN continues to make various efforts to encourage the electric vehicle ecosystem. Providing a public electric vehicle charging station is one of PLN’s contributions as a provider of electric vehicle recharging infrastructure. This helps electric vehicle users charge their electric vehicles easily. In addition, it can also accelerate the electric vehicle ecosystem, which is the target for achieving a clean energy mix.

Recently, 10 public electric vehicle charging stations spread across Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua have been inaugurated by PLN. This public electric vehicle charging station has spread to Eastern Indonesia and is expected to accelerate the realization of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

PT PLN, as a company engaged in energy, of course, has an important role in contributing to realizing clean energy. PLN is fully committed to taking a leading role in realizing the acceleration of providing electric vehicle recharging infrastructure.

In addition, PLN also creates opportunities for all parties to contribute to realizing the electric vehicle ecosystem. Other business entities can contribute by becoming partners in providing public electric vehicle charging stations based on the sharing economy business model.

Public electric vehicle charging stations are spread across Eastern Indonesia, including 3 units in Manado, 3 units in Kendari and Makassar, one unit in Ambon, one unit in Labuan Bajo, one unit in Mataram, and one unit in Papua. Furthermore, PLN would also target the addition of 14 public electric vehicle charging stations in the Sulmapana region.

To support the electric vehicle ecosystem, PLN has provided a public electric vehicle charging station feature that is integrated into the PLN Mobile application. This can make it easier for electric vehicle users to find the location of the nearest public electric vehicle charging station for charging.

In addition, PLN will also provide various bundling programs. Later, customers who buy electric cars will immediately get a home charging installation package, a discount on added power, and installation of all equipment.

To date, PLN has succeeded in providing public electric vehicle charging stations with as many as 96 units of EV chargers in 74 locations spread throughout Indonesia. This year, PLN has allocated Rp 120 billion for the construction of electricity infrastructure to accelerate the formation of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

In addition to public electric vehicle stations in eastern Indonesia, PLN also provides 2 units at the Office of the Directorate General of Electricity, Jakarta. The inauguration of these 2 units of public electric vehicle stations was carried out on January 4, 2022. This was supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in building an electric vehicle ecosystem. The provision of 2 units of public electric vehicle stations is carried out for the operational needs of government services.

The two public electric vehicle stations that were inaugurated were the blue-colored Delta 25kW DC and 22kW AC and the black-colored Phihong 30kW DC. Both are classified as medium-charging with an estimated charging time of 4 hours. This makes this public electric vehicle station suitable to be installed in offices with a fairly long parking time.

Energy transition to renewable energy is a necessary requirement to maintain energy availability in the future. In addition, it also improves the trade balance by reducing the cost of energy imports. This is in line with what was announced by Indonesia at the G20 and COP26 meetings. In 2060, Indonesia will declare net zero emissions, so it is necessary to accelerate the transition program to use energy that is more environmentally friendly.

Especially transportation, through the acceleration of the use of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are more economical and more environmentally friendly than vehicles that use an internal combustion engine. For a distance of 10 km, an electric vehicle only costs IDR 1,100. This is cheaper than spending on an oil-fueled car for IDR 9,000 for the same distance.
