In Indonesia, several geothermal power plant construction projects have started. One of them is the Dieng 2 geothermal power plant construction project in Banjarnegara, Central Java. This project is carried out by PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), which has started to conduct flow tests on the SLR-Q-31A production well. This flow test is carried out to ensure the capacity of geothermal production wells by measuring physical and chemical parameters.
The Dieng 2 geothermal power plant construction project is one of the government’s efforts to maximize the use of clean energy through geothermal development. The Dieng 2 geothermal power plant project is targeted to have a capacity of 55 MW and be completed in 2024. This project, in its current construction design, will require as many as 10 production wells, five of which are production wells, while the rest are injection wells.
The flow test at the Dieng 2 thermal power plant is a continuation of the flow test at the first well. The flow test process on the SLR-Q-31A well is carried out in stages for 30 days until the electricity capacity that can be generated is known. One of the steps is to pass gas through a 4-inch bleed line pipe to the abatement system, which contains caustic soda with a small opening. So, at this stage, you can control the gas so it doesn’t spread.

GeoDipa has tried to prepare the well flow test process to the maximum, both technically and non-technically. In addition, GeoDipa has also synergized with the Regional Disaster Management Agency of Banjarnegara Regency in maximizing the risk mitigation of production well flow testing work. Then, safety support equipment is also available and installed in the area. In addition, in this flow testing process, the community is also involved as an emergency response team and a 24-hour center for information and activities. The Emergency Response Team consists of rescuers, medics, and support, as well as three ambulances and their equipment, which are on standby 24 hours.
The provisional results of the production well flow test activity on the first well SLR-Q-31A have been confirmed. The Dieng Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant construction project exceeded estimates. According to the Acting Project General Manager of GeoDipa, one well produces 10-12 MW of electricity capacity. Meanwhile, it can be seen that the generated capacity reaches 30 MW.
