Perkembangan beauty industry beberapa tahun belakangan ini berjalan dengan sangat cepat. Kemunculan tren-tren kecantikan yang terus menerus membuat banyak produk-produk baru terus bermunculan. Hal ini yang kemudian memunculkan perilaku ‘konsumtif’ bagi para beauty enthusiast.

Mungkin hal ini memang menguntungkan bagi beberapa pihak, namun bagaimana dengan dampak yang ditimbulkan pada lingkungan?

Persoalan sampah di Indonesia sudah sangat sering kita dengar, terlebih sampah plastik. Bahkan mungkin beberapa dari Sobat EBT Heroes sering mendengar “Indonesia darurat sampah plastik”. Hal ini karena Indonesia menjadi penghasil sampah plastik laut kedua di dunia, disebutkan pada penelitian UC Davis dan Universitas Hasanuddin di pasar Paotere Makassar menunjukkan, 23 sampel ikan yang diambil memiliki kandungan plastik di perutnya. Wah masalah sampah plastik ini memang bukan hal yang sepele.

Setiap tahunnya produksi sampah plastik di Indonesia terus meningkat. Disebutkan oleh Novrizal dalam Webminar “Invest Solution For Plastic Pollution” bahwa jumlah sampah plastik terus naik secara eksponensial sejak 1995. Sepanjang tahun 2022, jumlah sampah mencapai 69 juta ton yang dihasilkan masyarakat Indonesia, di mana 18,2 persen atau 12,5 juta ton adalah sampah plastik.

Besarnya angka sampah plastik di Indonesia disebut merupakan dampak dari perilaku masyarakat Indonesia yang kerap menggunakan plastik sekali pakai. Yang mana plastik-plastik sekali pakai tersebut menjadi sampah yang menimbulkan dampak buruk bagi lingkungan baik di perairan maupun tanah.

Hal ini karena sampah plastik bersifat tidak mudah terurai, bahkan proses pengolahannya menimbulkan toksik dan bersifat karsinogenik, dan juga butuh waktu yang sangat lama untuk terurai secara alami bahkan hingga ratusan tahun.

Sociolla merupakan salah satu perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang industri kecantikan di Indonesia yang terbilang besar dan cukup berpengaruh. Menyadari akan hal tersebut sociolla berkomitmen untuk mendukung sustainability dalam industri kecantikan dengan membuat program, ‘Waste Down Kindness Up’ lanjutan dari program ‘Waste Down Beauty Up’.

Pada press conference oleh Co-Founder & CMO Social menjelaskan mengenai latar belakang Sociolla dalam mendukung sustainability dalam industri kecantikan ini. Disebutkan bahwa pertumbuhan industri kecantikan yang berjalan sangat cepat belakangan ini lah yang menjadi dasar program tersebut.

Perilaku konsumtif yang muncul yang disebabkan oleh tren kecantikan yang semakin menarik perhatian produsen untuk membuat produk-produk baru menimbulkan dampak yang buruk bagi beberapa aspek.

Tren kecantikan ini mungkin memang menguntungkan bagi pelaku industry kecantikan. Namun sociolla melihat dari aspek yang berbeda, yakni dampak yang disebabkan pada lingkungan. Sociolla menyadari akan darurat sampah plastik di Indonesia, di mana industry kecantikan merupakan salah satu penyumbang sampah plastik terbesar di dunia.

Oleh sebabnya sociolla memulai dengan mengurangi sampah plastik dengan kebijakan zero bubble wrap dan menggantinya dengan paper base eco friendly packaging. Selain itu, Sociolla juga melibatkan konsumennya untuk turut berkontribusi dalam menjaga lingkungan dalam program ‘Wate Down Kindness Up’ ini, yakni dengan merilis Recycle Station kolaborasinya bersama Sukin.

Sukin yang merupakan brand kecantikan alami Australia nomer 1 memiliki misi yang selaras dengan Sociolla yaitu tidak hanya menjaga kecantikan kulit saja, tetapi juga berkontribusi dalam menjaga ‘kecantikan’ alam dan lingkungan. Bergerak dari hal tersebut, Sociolla berkolaborasi bersama Sukin untuk menghadirkan ‘Recycle Station di store Sociolla pada tahun 2022. Hal ini tentunya mendapat dukungan oleh organisasi lingkungan, Waste4Change.

Sukin memutuskan untuk bekerja sama dan mendukung Sociolla untuk menjadi salah satu penggerak beauty industry di Indonesia untuk mengurangi sampah plastik yang dihasilkan dari produk kecantikan. Kemudian Sukin bekerja sama dengan menghadirkan Recycle Station di gerai offline Sociolla. Sukin hingga 2022 telah menyediakan Sukin Recycle Station di 34 gerai Sociolla di berbagai kota di Indonesia.

Cara kerja recycle station ini adalah dengan menukarkan kemasan produk kecantikan yang sudah habis ke dalam recycle station. Kemudian kemasan plastik yang sudah ditukarkan ke recycle station disalurkan ke Waste4Change untuk dikelola atau didaur ulang dengan tepat. Dengan begitu diharpkan program ini dapat mengurangi sampah plastik di Indonesia.

Tidak hanya sekedar mendukung kehidupan berkelanjutan dan menjaga alam, namun program ini juga sangat menguntungkan bagi konsumen loh, di mana para konsumen yang menukarkan kemasan produk kecantikannya ke recycle station akan mendapatkan 5 SOCO poin, yakni poin yang bisa digunakan untuk berbelanja di Sociolla.

Sejak dijalankannya program ini pada Maret 2022, program ini mendapatkan respon yang baik dari masyarakat, khususnya para beauty enthusiast terlebih yang sangat peduli terhadap lingkungan.

Hal ini dibuktikan dengan wujud nyata dari pada konsumen yang memanfaatkan recycle station, dalam waktu dua bulan saja Sociolla dan Sukin berhasil mengumpulkan sampah produk kecantikan hingga 1.4 ton, dan dalam 5 bulan berhasil mengumpulkan 3,7 ton, loh Sobat EBT Heroes.

Berangkat dari keberhasilan tersebut Sociolla bersama Sukin akan meneruskan pergerakan dengan skala lebih besar untuk mengurangi dampak negatif sampah plastik terlebih dari produk kecantikan.

Dengan keberhasilan ini, Sobat EBT Heroes juga pasti mengharapkan hal ini bisa ditiru oleh banyak pihak agar permasalahan sampah plastik di Indonesia terus berkurang setiap tahunnya, dengan makin tahu Indonesia, ternyata industri kecantikan aja sudah mengurangi limbah, pastinya menginspirasi kan? kami tunggu aksi nyata untuk Indonesia dari Sobat Heroes!
