Dalam bisnis berkelanjutan terdapat  prinsip sustainability , Prinsip Sustainability adalah prinsip keberlanjutan dalam melangsungkan kehidupan untuk semua makhluk hidup.

Sebenarnya L’Oreal Indonesia sejak pertama eksis di Indonesia sudah mendukung terhadap program keberlanjutan dan lingkungan. Dengan berkembangnya tantangan lingkungan dan sosial, L’Oreal mempercepat transformasi perusahaan menuju model bisnis yang menghormati Batasan-batasan planet dan memperkuat komitmen pembangunan berkelanjutan dan inklusinya.

L’Oréal Indonesia. Melani Masriel, Direktur Communication, Public Affairs, and Sustainability PT L’Oréal Indonesia, menegaskan dalam presentasi bertajuk “L’Oréal for The Future” di ajang Indonesia Green and Sustainable Company Award 2022 yang diselenggarakan Majalah SWA, bahwa L’Oréal Indonesia tetap committed dengan tujuan awal perusahaan ini berdiri. “Perusahaan kami adalah perusahaan dengan purpose to ‘Create Beauty That Move The World’,” ujar Melani.

Sejak 20 tahun lalu, pihaknya melakukan audit sosial. “Kami punya program komitmen keberlanjutan sharing beauty with all sejak tahun 2010, yang kemudian diperbarui dengan program L’Oréal for The Future sejak Juni 2020,”  kata Melani bersemangat.

L’Oréal for the Future adalah komitmen L’oréal untuk membangun model bisnis yang lebih ramah lingkungan, mentransformasi aktivitas untuk menghormati batasan planet, serta berkontribusi menyelesaikan berbagai tantangan sosial dan lingkungan.

Melani menjelaskan, ada tiga pilar utama komitmen ini. Pertama, mentransformasi bisnis untuk menghargai batasan planet, menerapkan program transformasi internal baru, dengan langkah-langkah yang terukur, untuk membatasi dampak perusahaan pada iklim, air, keanekaragaman hayati, dan sumber daya alam.

Kedua, memberdayakan pihak-pihak yang ada dalam ekosistem bisnis, membantu mereka melakukan transisi ke dunia yang lebih berkelanjutan. Ketiga, membantu mengatasi tantangan dunia, dengan mendukung kebutuhan dari langkah-langkah pemecahan masalah sosial dan lingkungan yang mendesak.

Menurut Melani, ada empat syarat utama yang diwajibkan L’Oréal dalam pengembangan produk agar berbasis keberlanjutan dan lingkungan. Pertama, memastikan produk harus ikut berkontribusi mengurangi dampak climate change. Kedua, bagaimana penggunaan air bisa menghormati prinsip-prinsip keberlanjutan. Ketiga, resources yang digunakan ⸺misalnya kemasan⸺ dan resources lainnya dipastikan juga harus lebih sustainable. Terakhir, keempat, terkait biodiversity atau keanekaragaman hayati.

L’Oréal menyadari upaya mendukung sustainability itu tidak bisa dilakukannya sendiri. Maka, programnya adalah bersama-sama seluruh masyarakat memengaruhi ekosistem di sekitar, para pemangku kepentingan  ⸺mulai dari konsumen, mitra usaha, hingga masyarakat sekeliling⸺ agar mengadopsi gaya hidup hijau. Sehingga, nilai-nilai positif ini akan berimbas kepada masyarakat yang lebih luas lagi.

L’Oreal Indonesia pun mempionirkan kemasan pengiriman ramah lingkungan saat dunia dilanda pandemic covid 19.

Program ini merupakan proyek kolaboratif antara L’Oréal Indonesia yang didukung oleh Shopee untuk memberikan pengalaman belanja online yang lebih ramah lingkungan dengan mengganti penggunaan bahan pengemasan plastik dan menggunakan kardus yang bersumber dari bahan baku yang bertanggung jawab.

Aktivitas belanja online yang mengalami peningkatan semasa pandemi telah mengubah gaya hidup konsumen. Belanja online diperkirakan akan terus meningkat, dan seiring dengan peningkatan tersebut, dampak bagi lingkungan menjadi perhatian yang diharapkan dapat diatasi L’Oréal Indonesia bersama dengan mitra e-commerce-nya.
