PT Geo Dipa Energi is currently developing a geothermal power plant project in Dieng and Patuha Unit 2. The two power plants will support the expansion of Indonesia’s geothermal power plant capacity. In addition, it is also a form of contribution to the sustainability, resilience, and adequacy of the national electricity system.

Then, PT Geo Dipa Energi plans to drill five new wells for geothermal power plants. The geothermal power plant is targeted to operate in 2023. The five wells are located in the Dieng Unit II Working Area, Banjarnegara, Central Java.

On June 21, Geo Dipa conducted a well test in one of the five new wells. The well test is carried out by inserting a measuring instrument to determine the gas capacity, temperature, content, and other characteristics of the well. And the data obtained is used to build pipelines to determine turbine design for power generation.

The well test stage is the most dangerous stage. In fact, at the well test stage, it even took a toll. This is because when the well was tested, the first thing that came out was non-condensable gas. This gas collects at the tip of the vapor and can be fatal if exposed to people. So it is necessary to be careful in regulating the opening of the well.

Therefore, prior to testing production wells at well pad 31, GeoDipa coordinated with various parties. Geo Dipa coordinates with the local government of Banjarnegara, related agencies, and the community around the company. This coordination relates to the implementation of geothermal well testing, particularly information on environmental impacts and prevention efforts.

Technically, Geo Dipa has anticipated this dangerous thing at the well test stage at a geothermal power plant. This is done by holding a meeting with all testing personnel to ensure that they understand the work program, operating procedures, and work safety procedures.

In addition, Geo Dipa also provides services and security to guards. In this case, Geo Dipa involved experts, the police/army, and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to guard against danger.

Specifically, in Dieng, Central Java, the GeoDipa Project aims to produce an additional 55 MW of geothermal energy. Later, it will operate in 2023 simultaneously with the operation of Patuha unit two of 55 MW. Based on the project work plan, at the beginning of June 2022, GeoDipa carried out a production well flow test (well testing exposure) at well pad 31 units 2 Dieng.

The potential for geothermal energy in the Dieng area is around 450 megawatts. As for the geothermal potential nationally, 40% of the world’s geothermal resources are in Indonesia. Indonesia’s electricity supply plays a major role in achieving the net zero emission target. National energy security and independence are very important in achieving sustainable economic development.
