Balikpapan merupakan salah satu kota besar yang ada di Provinsi Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia. Merupakan salah satu pusat bisnis dan industri besar di Kalimantan yang memiliki jumlah penduduk terbanyak di Kalimantan setelah Kota Samarinda.
Dengan jumlah penduduk yang cukup banyak ini, Balikpapan konsisten menjadi satu-satunya kota besar yang mendapat Adipura Kencana dan menduduki peringkat pertama.
Balikpapan juga menjadi salah satu kota layak huni di Indonesia dari 2014-2017 yang ditetapkan oleh Ikatan Ahli Perencana (IAP) dan menduduki urutan ke-3 dari 7 kota.
Peraih Adipura Kencana Nomor 1
Pada tahun 2022 Balikpapan kembali menjadi satu-satunya kota besar yang menerima Adipura Kencana yang dilaksanakan oleh Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK). Yang mana Adipura ini merupakan ajang tahunan yang dilaksanakan di Indonesia sebagai sebuah penghargaan untuk daerah-daerah di Indonesia.
Adipura Kencana merupakan penilaian Adipura yang tertinggi. Untuk mendapatkan penghargaan ini tentunya ada banyak faktor yang dijadikan penilaian loh, Sobat EBT Heroes!
Secara umum, penilaian Adipura ini terdiri dari dua indikator utama yang dijadikan sebagai dasar penialaian, yakni kondisi fisik lingkungan dan indikator tentang pengelolaan non fisik lingkungan perkotaan.
Indikator fisik lingkungan yakni yang berkaitan dengan kebersihan, keteduhan kota dan pengendalian pencemaran. Yang mana penilaiannya dilihat dari bagaimana pengelolaan sampah dan ruang terbuka hijau, pengendalian pencemaran udara dan pencemaran air.
Kemudian dari indikator tersebut yang dinilai adalah perumahan, fasilitas perkotaan, perairan terbuka, pantai wisata, transportasi, dan sanitasi.
Indikator non fisik yakni tidak kalah penting dengan indikator fisik, yakni yang berkaitan dengan aspek-aspek pengelolaan lingkungan yakni antara lain komitmen pemerintah daerah, kelembagaan, kepemimpinan dan partisipasi masyarakat.
Setiap aspek tersebut memiliki kualifikasinya masing-masing. Yakni kelembagaan mengacu pada peraturan, tanggung jawab, kondisi fasilitas, dan tingkat layanan. Untuk manajemen yakni kualifikasinya berkenaan dengan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan pengendalian.
Partisipasi masyarakat yakni peran masyarakat, juga termasuk lembaga Pendidikan. Hal ini disebutkan oleh Wali Kota Balikpapan Rahmad Mas’ud pada saat mendapatkan Thropy Adipura Kencana, mengucapkan terima kasih kepada seluruh warga kota Balikpapan “Kami juga mengharapkan seluruh masyarakat terus menjaga kebersihan. Jangan buang sampah sembarangan, pertahankan budaya bersih Balikpapan”.
Dari semua aspek tersebut kemudian dinilai di setiap kota di Indonesia, yang kemudian peraih angka tertinggilah yang menjadi pemenangnya, yakni Kota Balikpapan. Bagaimana? Sobat EBT Heroes jadi makin tahu Indonesia, kan?

Selain mendapatkan posisi menjadi kota besar terbersih di Indonesia, Balikpapan juga menjadi Kota Layak Huni di Indonesia. Sangat menarik, kan? Berdasarkan hasil survey yang dilakukan oleh Ikatan Ahli Perencaana (IAP) Indonesia bekerjasama dengan Cities Lab PT. Nusantara Urban Advisory, Balikpapan merupakan urutan ke-3 dari 7 kota besar layak huni dengan nilai index 65,8.
Untuk menjadi kota layak huni, aspek yang paling diperhitungkan adalah kenyamanan warga. Hal ini menyangkut ketercukupan pangan, fasilitas peribadatan, pengelolaan air bersih, fasilitas kebersihan, dan fasilitas Pendidikan.
Aspek yang termasuk kedalam kualifikasi tersebut berkenaan dengan Peraturan Daerah Nomor 12 Tahun 2012 tentang Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah Kota Balikpapan Tahun 2012-2032 yang bertujuan untuk menjadikan Balikpapan sebagai kota jasa yang dinamis, selaras dan hijau guna mendukung fungsinya sebagai Pusat Pertumbuhan Nasional dan tetap menjaga kualitas lingkunganya.
Berdasarkan persepsi masyarakat, indikator tertinggi Balikpapan menjadi kota layak huni yakni kebersihan lingkungan, sampah, kualitas fasilitas kesehatan, ketersediaan fasilitas Pendidikan, dan tingkat kriminaslitas rendah. Dan ada beberapa indikator terrendah yakni lapangan kerja, perlindungan budaya lokal, ketersediaan air bersih, biaya hidup, dan fasilitas difabel.
Terdapat juga beberapa indikator pendukung lainnya yang membuat Balikpapan menjadi layak huni yakni seperti interaksi sosial yang tinggi, akses informasi yang mudah didapatkan, ketersediaan fasilitas aktivitas sosial untuk umum seperti Tenis Stadium dan Gedung Dome, juga ketersediaan angkutan umum, telekomunikasi, perlindungan bangunan bersejarah, dan perbedaan nilai yang tinggi. Beberapa indikator ini memiliki nilai yang berbeda di tiap daerah di Balikpapan.

Indikator dalam ESC ini adalah udara bersih, lingkungan yang bersih, dan air bersih. Yang berarti dengan diraihnya penghargaan sebagai kota terbersih se-ASEAN, tidak bisa kita ragukan lagi bahwa Balikpapan memiliki lingkungan yang bersih, baik udara, air, dan lingkungan.
Bagaimana Sobat EBT Heroes? Bukankah lingkungan yang baik di Balikpapan ini merupakan kabar baik bagi Indonesia, karena kebersihan lingkungan di Balikpapan tidak hanya diakui di dalam negeri saja, tetapi sampai pada regional.
Hal ini tentunya sangat membanggakan bagi Indonesia bukan?
