PT Pertamina (Persero) will invest US$ 11 billion in capital expenditures to accelerate the new renewable energy or EBT program. The investment spending is expected to last for the next five years, until 2026.
Fadil Rahman, Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development at PT Pertamina Power Indonesia, explained that some of the funds will be used to construct solar power plant facilities (PLTS) at over 400 locations throughout Indonesia. The construction is expected to take 1.5 years to complete. He stated this at IDN Media’s Indonesia Millennial and Gen-Z Summit on Friday, September 30, 2022, at The Tribrata Dharmawangsa in South Jakarta.
Furthermore, the budget will be used to expand the use of geothermal technology as well as to develop electric vehicles (EVs) and ecosystem batteries. Two months ago, the company collaborated with several partners to launch a pilot project for acceleration support for electric motors in Bali.

Fadil recognized this in order to construct facilities and infrastructure for their connection to Pertamina’s commitment is confirmed to be in line with efforts to use domestic resources to supply energy in the country as the country moves toward clean energy development and decarbonization.
Previously, Pertamina was SVP Strategic Investment. According to Daniel Purba, Pertamina intends to increase its NRE mix from 1% in 2021 to 17% in 2030. The company also intends to cut carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
Pertamina’s total capital expenditure or capital expenditure (capex) in the NRE sector will reach US$ 11 billion within 5 years, or between 2022 and 2026. Pertamina’s EBT capex represents 14% of total state-owned company capex during the same period. Pertamina’s largest capex in 2022-2026 will still come from the upstream sector, which will account for US$ 34 billion (46 percent) of total capex (37 percent). Other sectors’ capex was recorded at $ 2 billion.

For Pertamina, this is one of the most effective ways that Pertamina could indeed increase its role in the growth of EBT in the energy mix, namely, by establishing global collaborations with binding targets and clear transition planning.
