Sampah-sampah di lingkungan sekitar makin merajalela akibat masih adanya rasa ketidakpedulian manusia terhadap lingkungan di sekitarnya, apalagi daerah Bengkulu. Kesadaran manusia terhadap lingkungan sekitar masih rendah. Rata-rata manusia berprinsip bahwa sampah yang berserakan pastinya akan dibersihkan oleh petugas kebersihan.

Padahal, menjaga alam dari sampah-sampah bukan hanya tugas petugas kebersihan saja, tetapi tugas semua manusia. Melindungi dan menjaga lingkungan alam adalah tanggung jawab semua umat manusia, tidak pandang bulu, jabatan, ataupun ras. Semua manusia disamaratakan untuk menjaga alam sekitarnya.

Dalam dunia pekerjaan terdapat petugas kebersihan yang sangat tekun dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan, adapun dalam dunia pendidikan biasanya terdapat sebuah komunitas atau kelompok mahasiswa pecinta alam.

Komunitas ini dibentuk dengan tujuan untuk melakukan kegiatan kolektif yang bertujuan untuk turut menjaga serta melestarikan alam sebagai bentuk wujud kecintaannya terhadap alam. Dengan demikian, melestarikan dan menjaga alam sekitar menjadi tujuan utama dalam bergabung dalam komunitas pecinta alam ini. Setiap anggota komunitas diwajibkan memiliki rasa tanggung jawab dengan alam dan memiliki pemikiran kritis mengenai alam.

Tahukah kamu? komunitas pecinta alam ini kegiatannya bukan hanya mendaki gunung, arung jeram, atau kegiatan lainnya saja, tetapi juga turut aktif membersihkan sampah-sampah sekitar sebagai wujud kecintaannya terhadap keindahan alam.

Contoh komunitas pecinta alam di Bengkulu yang tengah kritis hidup sehat. Lingkungan di Bengkulu terdapat banyak sampah yang menumpuk. Dari sekitar tiga sungai yang menjadi sumber bahan baku air PDAM atau Perusahaan Daerah Air Minum yang ada di Bengkulu tercemar mikroplastik. Sangat miris, bukan?

Kepala komunitas pecinta alam di Bengkulu mengatakan bahwa air dalam jumlah 100 liter yang diteliti bersama lembaga penelitian Ecoton menemukan sejumlah partikel mikroplastik dengan metode tes cepat. Parahnya pula, ekosistem di pantai yang dimiliki Bengkulu terdapat 16 hingga 41 partikel mikroplastik.

Dengan banyaknya sampah sungai di Bengkulu, maka perlunya upaya pengendalian mikroplastik yang sudah terkontaminasi dengan perairan Bengkulu. Apalagi sungai yang terkontaminasi ini ialah sumber air minum, pastinya kita menginginkan kebersihannya.

Maka dari itu, adanya aksi untuk mendesak Pemkot (Pemerintahan Kota) Bengkulu untuk lebih perhatian dan segera melakukan pembersihan terhadap sampah yang ada di sepanjang jalan, kawasan perairan, dan daerah kota Bengkulu lainnya.

Sudah dipastikan bahwa perairan Bengkulu yang sudah terkontaminasi oleh mikroplastik berasal dari sampah plastik yang dibuang ke laut setiap tahunnya. Beragam sekali sampah plastik yang ditemukan, misalnya ada sterofoam, tas kresek, kemasan makanan, dan lain-lain.

Pemerintah memberitahukan kepada konsumen untuk tidak membuang sampah sembarangan dan mengurangi penggunaan plastik yang dipakai sekali serta mengganti plastik dengan kantong yang bisa digunakan kembali. Selain itu, produsen yang masih mengeluarkan produk dengan kemasan plastik diharapkan juga dapat mengajak konsumennya untuk membuang sampah pada tempatnya sebagai tanggung jawab atas sampah yang dihasilkan.

Namun, balik lagi tak hanya tanggung jawab petugas kebersihan, produsen, dan komunitas pecinta alam saja, akan tetapi melestarikan lingkungan dengan cara menjauhkan dari sampah adalah tanggung jawab semua umat manusia.
