Bagaimana Cara Kerja Panel Surya?

  • Pemanfaatan panel surya saat ini mulai diperhitungkan, karena sumber energi dari sinar cahaya matahari adalah tidak terbatas dan terbarukan.
  • Panel surya memiliki beberapa jenis yaitu panel surya monokristal (monocrystalline), panel surya polikristal (polycrystalline), dan thin crystall. Tapi secara umum yang paling banyak dipergunakan adalah jenis monocrystalline dan poliycrystalline.
  • Sekarang ini biaya panel listrik surya membuatnya tidak praktis untuk penggunaan sehari-hari di mana tenaga listrik “kabel” telah tersedia.

Panel surya terdiri dari dua lapisan silikon yang tertempel. Kedua tipe silikon ini dinamakan sesuai dengan elektron yang terkandung di dalamnya. N untuk negatif, dan P untuk positif. Keduanya bersifat semikonduktor. Karena kedua silikon yang dihubungkan ini memiliki dua kutub yang berbeda, maka otomatis ketika dihubungkan keduanya akan menghasilkan medan listrik. Elektron yang terpapar oleh sinar matahari akan bergerak dan menghasilkan arus listrik.

Panel surya juga memiliki lapisan anti reflektif yang menahan sinar matahari yang datang sehingga tidak terpantul kembali.

Panel inilah yang membedakannya dengan material lain. Jadi, walaupun sekilas terlihat seperti kaca, namun tidak ada energi yang terpantul kembali.

Sistem inilah yang disebut dengan nama photovoltaic. Sistem ini berasal dari kata photo yang berarti cahaya, dan volt yang berarti tegangan listrik. Maka sistem photovoltaic adalah mengubah energi cahaya menjadi energi listrik.

Panel surya tidak bekerja sendiri untuk menyimpan energi listrik yang sudah dihasilkan. Ketika pemasangan panel, maka akan dipasang juga baterai khusus yang berguna untuk menyimpan energi yang sudah dihasilkan oleh panel.

Ketika siang hari, maka energi listrik yang dihasilkan oleh panel surya bisa langsung digunakan untuk kebutuhan, kemudian sisanya akan tersimpan otomatis ke dalam baterai.

Sehingga ketika sudah tidak ada matahari pun, rumah atau gedung yang menggunakan panel surya sebagai sumber energinya tetap bisa menggunakan listrik yang berasal dari baterai.
