The Renewable Energy Festival [RE] Spark 2022 is an event that showcases environmentally friendly business innovations by utilizing renewable energy. This event was organized by New Energy Nexus Indonesia and supported by the IKEA Foundation. This Renewable Energy Festival is held for two days, from June 2 to 3, 2022.
The background for holding this festival is based on the abundance of renewable energy sources in Indonesia that have not been optimally optimized. Indonesia has great potential for renewable energy resources of 400 GW. Meanwhile, of this amount, only 2.5%, or 10 GW, has been utilized. Therefore, the government is actively encouraging the optimization of the use of renewable energy. It’s for sustainable development and the environment through this festival.
This renewable energy festival invites various clean energy startups to contribute. This event provides an opportunity for innovators and startups to showcase their inovation towards achieving the target of net zero emissions. In addition, there is also the opportunity to explore and develop ideas and innovations for the creation of a green economy in Indonesia. The existence of this startup is expected to be able to create a renewable energy business ecosystem. It is because will drive the national economy in the future.

New Energy Nexus, as the organizer of the renewable energy festival, supports various clean energy startups. The support provided ranges from new technologies to the implementation and adoption of clean energy through accelerator programs, funding, and ecosystems. According to New Energy Nexus, providing startups with the right resources will provide the clean energy solutions the world needs to tackle the climate crisis. This year, there are 10 programs owned by New Energy Nexus to help startups grow and succeed. Therefore, New Energy Nexus is committed to always supporting and contributing to creating a clean energy transition in the world.
This Renewable Energy Festival also received support from the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. Startups engaged in renewable energy are highly appreciated by the government. It is because they are considered to be able to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia. Besides that, it can also accelerate the pace of economic growth and create a clean energy-based economy in Indonesia.
The festival, which carries the theme ‘Accelerating Transition and Igniting Innovation’, is sponsored by the Medco Foundation, Innovation Factory, GIZ, and TransJakarta. This event was held to support and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy. And it is also eco-friendly innovation through a series of activities. The series of activities includes a hackathon, an exhibition, and investment speed dating. A Hackathon is a competition for the development of innovation and startup businesses to find solutions to climate problems. In the exhibition, there were 23 startups exhibiting their innovations and products. And the last, investment Speed Dating is a session that brings together startups with potential investors as well as interactive discussions related to renewable energy in workshop and seminar sessions.

There are more than 30 renewable energy innovators and startups from various fields, such as clean energy, e-mobility, energy access, energy digitization, customer experience, and business model innovation. And some of the startups that have joined are as follow:
1. PT. Maras Power Tool (OMP)
PT. Plat Maras Power is a subsidiary of the Sumbawa University of Technology. PT. OMP uses renewable energy and appropriate technology for its product development. The products it develops are electric bicycles, solar-powered cold storage, and solar-powered submersible pumps. Through this innovation, fishermen in Sumbawa can store their catch products longer with cold storage products using solar power and batteries.
2. PT Xurya Daya Indonesia (Xurya)
PT Xurya Daya Indonesia is a renewable energy platform with a vision to revolutionize the energy industry in Indonesia. Xurya pioneered the zero-investment method of switching to solar power to incentivize rooftop solar projects, particularly in the commercial and industrial sectors. In early 2022, Xurya managed to book a series A funding of US $21.5 million, or equivalent to Rp. 308 billion.
3. EV Spores
Spora EV is an electric vehicle startup based on engineering. The three services offered are the conversion of conventional vehicles into electric vehicles, whether motorcycles, buses, trucks, or cars. Second, Spora EV provides product development services. Third, Spora EV provides consulting services for companies that want to convert their vehicle fleet into electric vehicles, as well as companies that want to explore the electric vehicle business (business transformation).
Furthermore, on the second day of the Renewable Energy Festival [RE] Spark 2022, as many as 10 startups participating in the Hackathon program will present their ideas, innovations, and work at the Demo Day session in front of 5 judges. The jury will choose the 3 best teams and 1 favorite team in the 2022 Hackathon, which provides a total prize of IDR 100 million.
