In this project, PT PLN (Persero) takes the role of spurring the construction of the Peusangan hydroelectric power plant. The Peusangan hydroelectric power plant is targeted to be operational in July 2023. With the operation of this hydropower plant, it will simultaneously increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix.
The Peusangan hydroelectric power plant project has a capacity of 88 MW. The capacity is divided into two power stations. Power station 1 has a capacity of 45 MW, while power station 2 has a capacity of 43 MW. For operations, power station 1 is targeted to operate in July 2023 and power station 2 in July 2024. Currently, the progress of the construction of the Peusangan hydroelectric power plant has reached 89.22 percent. At the completion of this project, PLN also cooperates with four contractors as working partners.
The Peusangan hydroelectric power plant is the first in Aceh, so it can reduce Aceh’s BPP. And the Peusangan hydroelectric power plant contributes nationally to the new renewable energy mix target of 23 percent by 2025. In addition, it will also improve the economy of the people in Central Aceh Regency.

The development of fish pond cultivation is a form of social and environmental responsibility initiated by the Peusangan hydroelectric power plant. The Peusangan hydroelectric power plant directly targets the economic improvement of the community around the work area of the Peusangan hydroelectric power plant.
According to statistical records, fish consumption in Central Aceh Regency in a year reaches 6,000 tons of fish. And until now, the Central Aceh district is still very dependent on fish supplies from outside the region. For this reason, efforts to increase fish production in this area are still very much needed.
The Peusangan hydroelectric power plant provides an area that belongs to a hydroelectric power plant. Later, it will be used by the community to build fish ponds and provide training for several days to community groups.
