Inggris merupakan salah satu negara terbersih di dunia yang menduduki peringkat ke-4 setelah Denmark, Luxembourg, kemudian Switzerland. Berdasarkan perhitungan Environmental Performance Index (EPI), Inggris memiliki nilai yang sempurna untuk air minum, sanitasi, dan emisi polusi dengan nilai total 81,3. Penilaian yang dilakukan oleh EPI tentunya memiliki standar yang harus dipenuhi untuk memenuhi dua kebijakan utamanya yakni vitalitas ekosistem dan kesehatan lingkungan. Penilaian itu kemudian dimasukan ke dalam 32 indikator kinerja yang dibedakan menjadi 11 kategori, mencakup kualitas udara, sanitasi dan air, keanekaragaman hayati dan habitat, serta keberlanjutan. 

Kualitas Udara dan Kesejahteraan Ekonomi Sejalan

Anggapan bahwa untuk mewujudkan peningkatan kualitas udara menjadi lebih baik selalu bertentangan dengan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan ekonomi di suatu negara. Namun, hal ini disanggah oleh Inggris karena telah berhasil membangun perekonomian dan tanggung jawab lingkungan yang berjalan secara beriringan. 

Menariknya lagi, industri rendah karbon yang dibangun Inggris telah mendukung lebih dari 460.000 lapangan kerja. Dimulai dari manufaktur kendaraan listrik di Midlands dan North East hingga industri pembangkit listrik tenaga angin lepas pantai yang berkembang pesat yang berpusat di Humber dan Tees. Ditambah lagi dengan ten point plan for a green industrial revolution yang diikuti oleh pemerintah Inggris, sehingga menghasilkan 68.000 lapangan kerja ramah lingkungan.

Ide utama dari rencana sepuluh poin Inggris adalah untuk mendorong keberlanjutan di Inggris, menciptakan lapangan kerja baru yang ramah lingkungan, dan membantu negara ini dalam mencapai target emisi nol bersih pada tahun 2050. Revolusi Industri Hijau ini diupayakan dengan beberapa cara, misalnya memperkenalkan tolok ukur baru untuk memanfaatkan energi ramah lingkungan, melakukan dekarbonisasi pada sektro transportasi yang menghasilkan emisi karbin berlebih, dan menciptakan bangunan yang lebih hemat energi dan ramah lingkungan serta lapangan kerja yang ramah lingkungan.

Net Zero strategy merupakan bagian dari rencana sepuluh poin Inggris yang dibentuk pada tahun 2021. Pemerintah Inggris berhasil meyakinkan investor, sehingga pada tahun 2019, saat awal pelaksanaan ten point plan for a green industrial revolution, pemerintah mendapatkan investasi swasta sebesar 22 miliar Euro sebagai dasar bagi revolusi industri ramah lingkungan. Hingga saat ini, terhitung sudah terkumpul sekitar 180 miliar Euro investasi yang direncanakan untuk membangun pembangkit listrik yang menghasilkan pasokan listrik yang bersih dan aman untuk disalurkan ke rumah-rumah dan bisnis.
