Project Impacts and Benefits

This project supplies clean electricity to Pakistan’s national power grid. From November 2015 to March 2024, it has replaced 966,203 MWh of fossil fuel-based electricity, resulting in a total emissions reduction of approximately 483,100 tCO₂e.
Annually, the project generates around 130,000 MWh of clean electricity, cutting about 65,000 tCO₂e in carbon emissions.


Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives
As a responsible corporate entity, Sapphire Wind Power Company Limited (SWPCL) actively implements CSR programs aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7, 8, and 13.

  1. Quality Education
    • Built and maintains three primary schools near the project site.
    • Provides qualified teachers and installs solar panels for lighting and fans in schools.
  2. Modern Healthcare Facilities
    • The only project in the region offering advanced healthcare services and ambulance support, in collaboration with Aga Khan Hospital Karachi.
    • Offers free medicine, treats up to 30 patients per day, and serves three villages with a combined population of 280 people.
  3. Access to Clean Water
    • Provides a drinking water bowser for local communities.
    • Constructed three water storage tanks for local use.
  4. Economic Empowerment & Local Employment
    • Employs 47 local residents.
    • Awards civil construction and waste disposal contracts to local community members.
  5. Household Solar Energy Solutions
    • Distributed 20 solar home systems to local residents.

Environmental Initiatives
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, SWPCL adheres to IFC EHS Guidelines and Performance Standards, and implements the following measures:

  • Bird & Bat Monitoring
    • Engages independent consultants to conduct ornithological studies.
    • Follows Scottish Natural Heritage guidelines to assess flight patterns and mortality rates of birds and bats.
  • Noise & Shadow Flicker Monitoring
    • Regularly monitors noise and shadow flicker impacts from turbines on nearby communities as per IFC standards.
  • Waste Management
    • Implements appropriate on-site waste management practices.
