Dewasa ini, perkembangan pembangkit listrik tenaga surya (PLTS) semakin gencar dilakukan. Tidak hanya di lapisan masyarakat, pemerintah juga turut mendobrak angka pemanfaatan PLTS dengan cara membuat regulasi-regulasi yang mendukung kuat pemanfaatan PLTS. Terlebih lagi kini pemanfaatan PLTS, khususnya PLTS atap bisa mendapatkan insentif, yang tentunya menjadi hal yang menarik bagi para konsumen.

Begitu banyak hal positif yang diberikan jika seseorang memanfaatkan PLTS untuk mendapatkan energi listrik. Tidak hanya mendukung bauran energi nasional menuju Indonesia zero emission pada tahun 2060. Pemanfaatan PLTS ini juga memungkinkan konsumennya untuk mandiri memperoleh energi listrik.

Tidak lengkap jika hanya dampak positif yang dibahas dalam tulisan ini. PLTS tentunya juga memiliki dampak negatif, terlepas dari membutuhkan modal yang cukup besar di awal pemasangan ada lingkungan yang perlu turut dipertimbangkan.

Dengan regulasi yang timbul beberapa waktu lalu, tentunya dapat dilihat bahwa angka pemanfaatan PLTS akan terus meningkat. Dengan demikian, penggunaan komponennya juga akan turut meningkat.

Sebuah sistem PLTS secara umum mengandung banyak unsur di dalamnya salah satunya adalah logam. Jika pada suatu saat sistem PLTS tersebut mangkrak maka limbah-limbah dari komponen penyusun PLTS ini harus dipilah dengan baik untuk menghindari kerusakan lingkungan.

Terlebih lagi jika system PLTS hybrid dan off-grid yang memerlukan baterai. Baterai tersebut mengandung senyawa-senyawa kimia dan jika sudah usang akan menjadi limbah B3 (Bahan Berbahaya dan Beracun).

Terkait pengelolaan limbah baterai tersebut, pemerintah sudah mengeluarkan regulasi berupa Peraturan Pemerintah No. 101 Tahun 2014 dan Keputusan Bappedal No. 1 Tahun 1995. Kedua regulasi tersebut mengatur tatacara pengumpulan dan penyimpanan limbah B3 baterai bekas.

Selain baterai, yang juga mengandung unsur kimia didalamnya adalah komponen utama sebuah PLTS yaitu modul surya. Dalam sebuah modul surya terkandung 75% kaca, 10% polimer, 8% aluminium, 5% silikon, 1% tembaga dan juga timbal dalam jumlah yang kecil. Jika kandungan-kandungan tersebut didiamkan maka tentunya akan menimbulkan dampak yang buruk bagi lingkungan, terlebih lagi ada kandungan timbal di dalamnya.

Maka dari itu, sudah sepatutnya jika akan memasang atau menggunakan PLTS harus juga dipikirkan cara agar PLTS tersebut tidak mencemari lingkungan nantinya karena tentunya PLTS tidak mampu bekerja sepanjang hayatnya.
