Operation of New Natural Gas-Fired Power Plant: PLTGU Priok Block 4

PLTGU Priok Block 4 was developed in response to the growing electricity demand in the Java-Madura-Bali (Jamali) system, which experienced an average growth rate of 7.7% in 2021. With an installed capacity of 909.5 MW, this plant primarily supplies electricity to the DKI Jakarta region. The development of PLTGU Block 4 also aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the Jamali grid.

Operated by PT PLN Indonesia Power, PLTGU Priok Block 4 is one of Indonesia’s gas-fired power plants using LNG and is equipped with the country’s first Mitsubishi M701F5 gas turbine technology. According to 2019 heat rate commissioning tests, this unit achieves a performance efficiency of 50.12% and features a Low NOx Burner to minimize exhaust emissions. This high level of efficiency results in significantly lower GHG emissions compared to similar power generation units.

PLTGU Priok supplies approximately 65% of the electricity demand in the Priok–Cawang–Bekasi subsystem. The Priok plant plays a critical role in supporting the capital city’s electricity supply, particularly in “Ring 1” areas, which include vital and high-security facilities such as the Vice Presidential Palace, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, the TNI Halim Airbase, and various other essential and VVIP locations throughout DKI Jakarta.
