  • The Department of Environment and Hygiene (DLHK) of Badung Regency, Bali, has cleaned approximately 50 tons of garbage from Kuta Beach.
  • Aside from Kuta Beach, garbage is collected at Seminyak Beach, Legian, and other locations in the North Kuta District of Badung, Bali. 
  • The preliminary assumption is that the trash on the beaches is a mix of local waste from the Kuta area as well as consignments from the west or outside of Bali.

Since Thursday, October 27, 2022, the Department of Environment and Hygiene (DLHK) of Badung Regency, Bali, has cleaned approximately 50 tons of garbage from Kuta Beach. The garbage transported from one of Bali’s popular beaches is dominated by wooden sticks and twigs, amounting to 50 tons in total.

Around 80 people have been assigned to clean up the trash on Kuta Beach. Waste that has not been transported will first be collected at the STU. If it takes 20-40 trucks to transport approximately 40-50 tons of waste.

Trash is still arriving at Kuta Beach, but not at the same rate as just the other day. Aside from Kuta Beach, garbage is collected at Seminyak Beach, Legian, and other locations in the North Kuta District of Badung, Bali. Interestingly, 12 trucks carrying 25 tons of trash were transported from Seminyak Beach on the same day.

Trash will undoubtedly continue to rise to the surface, making it difficult to avoid. This possibility is just the beginning, because there will be trash from the next wave of shipments in the future. As a result, the community is expected to be on alert 24 hours a day, seven days a week, because not only Kuta Beach is affected.

The preliminary assumption is that the trash on the beaches is a mix of local waste from the Kuta area as well as consignments from the west or outside of Bali. Despite this, due to the small amount of trash in the sea, the beach is still considered safe for tourists to surf on.

Knowing the foregoing, our awareness as a community that depends on the sea for a living must be high. One step that visitors and local residents can take to help revitalize the sea and its ecosystem is to refrain from throwing trash into it.
