Trees make our cities more livable for a variety of reasons. However, the amount of tree canopy in our cities has been declining for many years. (ii)Trees enhance air quality by filtering hazardous dust and pollutants from the air we breathe, such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide. A mature tree alone can absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide, while trees within street proximity absorb nine times more pollutants than those planted far from each other. Research also shows that ozone is improved by 3% to 7% every time urban tree canopy increases by 10%.
