  • The potential in developing microalgae cultivation has not been utilized properly in Indonesia.
  • Albitec Company is a company that innovates to develop microalgae biotechnology for a sustainable future.
  • In terms of operations, Albitec uses renewable energy sources.

Microalgae are microorganisms that can produce food, such as spirulina, also called spirulina microalgae. Spirulina microalgae can provide many benefits for humans. Unfortunately, this spirulina product is an imported product. In fact, Indonesia has a tropical climate. And it means Indonesia has great potential in developing spirulina microalgae cultivation. However, this potential has not been utilized properly in Indonesia.

To take advantage of the potential of microalgae cultivation, Albitec is here to assist in the development of microalgae cultivation. Albitec stands for algae biotechnology, and the company was founded in 2020. However, Falasifah has planned this company as CEO of Albitech since 2018, when he was still a student.

Albitec Company is a company that innovates to develop microalgae biotechnology for a sustainable future. Microalgae were chosen for cultivation because they do not produce waste, so they do not pollute the environment. From the results of this microalgae cultivation, Albitec can produce various kinds of products derived from spirulina. In terms of operations, Albitec uses renewable energy sources. This is done to support the clean energy mix in Indonesia.

To find out the renewable energy sources used by Albitec for operational microalgae cultivation, then ZonaEBT, which is one of the startups engaged in renewable energy, conducted an interview with Falasifah as CEO of Albitec on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

What renewable energy sources does Albitech use in its operational microalgae cultivation?

Albitec uses two types of renewable energy for operational matters: wind power plants and solar panels. Wind power plants take advantage of the strong wind intensity. Then, solar panels take advantage of the intensity of sunlight that is quite large. Albitec uses the energy of wind and sunlight, which is quite large, as energy to generate electricity. “Microalgae cultivation does not use electricity from PLN, but uses renewable energy, such as wind power plants and solar panels,” said Falasifah as CEO of Albitec.

This Albitec company uses a hybrid wind power plant with solar panels. “Solar panels can accommodate sunlight, and wind power plants can capture wind power. Then, the energy produced from both types of renewable energy is stored in batteries. Afterwards, the batteries will supply electricity to all of our 16 pools, “he continued.

Uniquely, the wind power plant used by Albitec is different from the others. What sets it apart is that the wind power plant at Albitec can rotate from any direction. “The wind power plant that we use is imported from China. And the capacity of one mill can reach 1,000 watts. With 16 mills that Albitec has for 16 pools, the capacity reaches 16,000 watts,” explained Albitec CEO, Falasifah.

What are the benefits of using renewable energy?

By using renewable energy in the interests of production provides benefits or advantages for Albitec. The advantage is regarding the cost of electricity bills. Using renewable energy can lower the cost of electricity bills. “Using renewable energy can cut the cost of electricity bills by up to 50%. Initially, electricity costs reached 10 million, but after using renewable energy, it was only 5 million, “explained Falasifah.

Renewable energy is used by Albitec for production purposes. There are various products produced from microalgae, such as supplements to nourish the body of Garmil which is a healthy snack, and spirulina to maintain healthy skin.
