Grab and Lazada Introducing the Electric Motorcycle Technology

Grab announced its collaboration with Lazada. Grab, which is the leading super application in Southeast Asia, will collaborate with Lazada. Lazada is also the leading e-commerce in Southeast Asia. The collaboration is for the first initiative that will promote more environmentally friendly package delivery. This fleet comes from GrabRental and its rental business model GrabWheels. Grab will rent motorbikes from the GrabWheels fleet to deliver packages to Lazada consumers in the Jabodetabek area.

This collaboration is part of Grab and Lazada’s #LangkahHijau Campaign. Lazada is one of the leading e-commerce in Asia with an extensive logistics network. Thus, through Lazada Logistics, it contributes to supporting a sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. One of them is by launching a fleet of electric motorcycles in collaboration with GrabWheels. The launch was carried out from February 2021 and will be reproduced based on need in the following month. With this fleet, Lazada will be able to expand its logistics reach in an environmentally friendly manner in Greater Jakarta. This reflects the shared commitment of Grab and Lazada to reach out and provide greener solutions for consumers in Indonesia.

Previously, Grab had also collaborated with domestic electric-based motorcycles. These electric motor vehicles such as Viar and Selis, as well as international brands such as Kymco. This is done by presenting the development of electric-based vehicle technology to support this commitment.

According to the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, we should appreciate the collaboration between Grab and Lazada is a joint solution in supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. This can accelerate the government’s efforts to have an electric vehicle ecosystem. In line with the Roadmap for General Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations which were launched some time ago. With this collaboration, other e-commerce can be inspired to improve their services with more eco-friendly vehicles.

According to the President of Grab Indonesia, Grab has worked with the government and various other partners on a number of environmental initiatives. This can accelerate the development of an electric-based motorcycle ecosystem in Indonesia. In addition, it is also to build a more “green” future for the country.

On the other hand, according to the Chief Logistics Officer of Lazada Indonesia, Lazada welcomes the collaboration that brings electric vehicles into our logistics ecosystem. The development of a sustainable and environmentally friendly e-commerce ecosystem is Lazada’s commitment. So reducing the carbon footprint in sending packages to Lazada customers who live in Jabodetabek is a real form of this commitment. This collaboration provides quality logistics solutions for businesses, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia.

In a research entitled Lazada Study on Accelerating Digital Transformation Through e-Commerce, one of the main findings is the important role of logistics in building a digital ecosystem. This collaboration in using GrabRental’s electric motorbike is part of Lazada’s last mile commitment.

Furthermore, this electric vehicle can cover a distance of up to 130 km at a speed of up to 100km/h and carry a load of up to 130kg. As part of this collaboration, the delivery fleet at Lazada Logistics will receive a series of training using the GrabWheel electric motorbike. So that you can make deliveries safely and on time.

Since 2019, Grab has been actively collaborating with local governments to accelerate environmentally friendly transportation with the #LangkahHijau campaign. Entering the green economy, Grab plans to deliver around 14,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2022. This latest collaboration is a tangible manifestation of Grab’s ongoing commitment to support the electric vehicle ecosystem. It’s also in line with Presidential Regulation number 55 of 2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation.
