The presence of a startup is an innovative step in changing the system for future renewable energy businesses. Seeing the potential of renewable energy in Indonesia and the availability of domestic conventional energy sources encourage the rapid development of clean energy businesses or start-ups in Indonesia. The presence of a clean energy business or startup in Indonesia is considered a business potential in responding to the challenges of the Energy and Mineral Resources sector. Especially at this time, the demands for a better climate and environment are also getting stronger.

This renewable clean energy business became one of the topics discussed in an online discussion organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources entitled Energy Mix Interactive Discussion ‘Pioneering an Environmentally Friendly Energy Business’ on June 13, 2020. In this online discussion, renewable energy business players were presented.

Co-Founder of the Indonesia Energy & Environmental Institute (IE2I) Satya Hangga Yuhda said, Indonesia is slowly shifting to renewable energy. This progress is very good because the National Energy Policy makes renewable energy a government priority in increasing the share of the energy mix.

According to Hangga, the millennial generation who dominates Indonesia’s demographics and is in close contact with technology is very suitable to be involved in the field of new and renewable energy. This is done, so IE2I is to optimize the role of youth as developed countries do.

On the same occasion, the representative of Warung Energi Yasmine Safitri invited the younger generation to start considering pursuing a new and renewable energy (EBT) business. He considers that the EBT business can help people to change positively, be more productive by staying in harmony with nature, not only about money.

The establishment of Warung Energi is based on the desire to expand access to electrical energy in remote areas and to contribute to the achievement of energy mix targets. This is done by Yasmine to patent herself as a businessman who has a big social impact rather than to get her own profit.

However, along with the development of information technology, the EBT business provides benefits beyond what Warung Energi expects through the birth of innovation in the form of Energy Snacks.

This is agreed by the founder of PT Innovation Dinamika Pratama Andre Susanto who encourages new and renewable energy to become a new lifestyle to support daily activities. He formed a renewable energy business as a lifestyle because in 42 years fossil energy has run out. He also stated that limited access and electricity infrastructure in some remote areas is one of the factors that shape the lifestyle of darkness at night.

One of the actions that Andre can take is to provide lighting assistance to five villages in Sumba, East Nusa Tengga, namely Tawui, Praimadita, Tandula Jangga and Praiwitu villages through the construction of a minigrid solar power plant that does not require a lot of land, because the solar panels used use is placed on top of the power pole. This has become a new lifestyle for renewable energy.

Through the emergence of various startups among the millennial generation, they are able to optimize the use of new and renewable energy through the use of information technology. “This makes renewable energy a common thing, common, no longer something that only certain people can access. Moreover, there is a financial scheme that makes this project more attractive or easier to develop and is supported by an appropriate technology transfer climate,” said one of the discussion participants, Latifa Seniorita.

Latifa also warmly welcomed the presence of activities organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. “This is one of the funniest forums I’ve ever participated in while immersing myself in the twists and turns of the energy world through an academic perspective,” said Latifa.

Presenting 30 selected panelists from millennials who were selected through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ social media, this interactive discussion was also broadcast live through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Youtube.
